The Obiex Block: I Got Cold Feet When I Landed My First Fintech Job
Loveth Solomon is a copy and content writer for the crypto and blockchain ecosystem. In this episode of The Obiex Block, she speaks to us about how she never envisioned working in fintech, how she got cold feet when she was called for her first gig, and her belief that crypto content is more flexible than it is rigid.
Let’s get to know you! Please introduce yourself.
My name is Loveth Solomon.
It's great to have you on the Obiex Block, Loveth. What do you do for a living?
I’m a copy and content writer. I’ve worked with some crypto and blockchain brands in the past, and I’m currently signing a social media management deal with one of them.
Cool. What crypto and blockchain brands have you worked with in the past?
I’ve worked with Akoin and Bitget.
And why did you become a writer? Had writing always been a passion, or was there a money-making window you saw and decided to take?
Honestly, it’s a little of both. Writing has always been my thing. I knew that, no matter what I studied, I’d always fall back on writing as a career path. So I did. However, in 2020, copywriting was becoming a big deal in terms of profit and demand, so I evolved to place myself in an environment where the money was sure.
I feel you on that one. No matter how much you are passionate about something, you still need to find a point of sustainability.
Exactly! And that was what I did. As a creative, you need to keep evolving with your skills. It keeps your relevance in the field and keeps the money coming.
It sure does. Why did you decide to work for a crypto-affiliated company though?
Oh, that! I never envisioned ever working for brands affiliated with crypto. In the past, I thought it’d be media or a not-so-complicated tech brand. One day, I got a call from a friend. She wanted to know if I could write content and copies for a fintech brand. I thought, “Fintech? Sure! How complicated could it be?” Until she said it was crypto, and then my feet got cold. I knew nothing about crypto, but she assured me that with my talent and impressive learning capabilities, I would get the hang of it in good time. So I believed her and took the job. She was right because I got really good at it.
And you’ve been working with crypto brands since then?
Yeah. I realised that writers who knew effective marketing were scarce in that field, so I took advantage of the situation to thrive there because I had come to know the onions of content marketing in crypto and blockchain.
You sound like a good business person with all these advantages you are taking.
Hahaha. That sounds like a compliment and an accusation in one sentence, but I’ll take it. I never see opportunities and turn the other way.
And that is a great trait to have.
Being an active player in a crypto company, you must have some views on cryptocurrency. Care to share?
Hmm, I have been bragging about my abilities, so I have to do my best to answer this particular question before I disgrace myself (laughs).
My view is that, as much as crypto is said to be risky, it is actually a very safe way to invest if you need value for your finances in this digital era. Rather than saving your money in traditional banks, where it would be collecting dust and maintenance debits, you can invest in crypto, where you can earn endless profits. There’s also the trading aspect, which is a rollercoaster but a really great way to accumulate more money.
Spoken like a true copywriter. What about blockchain? What do you understand by it?
Let me see if I can use an example to explain this. You see those factories that are automatically run by machines where every product is evenly distributed? The blockchain is similar to that system, only in a digital environment, that is, on air. The machines are the different computers that work together, recording information and transactions to different blocks, just like the products in my factory example. And, since these computers are operated automatically and independently, no single person can tamper with the system.
You did a great job explaining it like that! Ever given a full lecture on crypto just because you told someone where you worked?
I give full lectures every day! I write content and copies, remember?
True. There can never be any lecture greater than that.
Exactly my point.
What are the best and worst pieces of advice you have ever received about your career?
The best are the compliments I get for a job well done. I don’t have any bad ones. At least, I can’t think of any at the moment.
Fair enough. Let’s talk a little about money.
That always gets my interest. Shoot!
What is the biggest money move you have ever made in crypto?
This might not be what you want to hear, but the biggest money move I ever made was to get an iPhone from the money I once invested in crypto. It became a need for my career in content marketing, so I just went with it.
And I like that you did. What mattered was that it was “your” need.
That’s right. I was so happy I made the move.
So, how did this particular move influence your lifestyle and financial habits?
I don’t think I’m so afraid of spending large amounts of money anymore. Especially if it’s for something very important. I’m grateful that my current lifestyle provides the means for me to actualise it.
And that is what we all pray for. A lifestyle that can sustain us.
Yes, I did pray for that a lot.
Now, for our final question: what do you find most exciting about your job?
People think that content and copywriting for crypto and blockchain-affiliated brands are usually rigid, but it’s not. It’s actually quite flexible if you find a great angle, and finding that angle is what makes my job exciting.
What a great way to sign out! Thank you for being on the Obiex Block. I wish you the best of luck.
Thank you!
